Background

The Boys’ Brigade is a global youth organisation founded in Glasgow in 1883. It swiftly spread across the UK in the early 1890s and now, as of 2023, boasts an impressive 750,000 members across 60 countries.

In 2023, the Northern Ireland branch of Boys' Brigade (BBNI) embarked on an exciting new chapter, seeking to carve out its own identity from the UK main grouping. They partnered with us to craft a fresh brand identity, comprehensive brand guidelines, a state-of-the-art website, and an array of print and digital assets.

Our Approach

Our first challenge was to revitalise BBNI's look and feel. The goal was to retain aspects of the Northern Ireland Boys’ Brigade heritage whilst infusing it with a renewed energy and broader appeal that truly reflects their mission. This led to the creation of a vibrant colour palette, a disruptive logo execution, and a suite of engaging social media templates.

Next, we turned our attention to creating BBNI's digital home. Through meticulous research, collaborative workshops with the BBNI team, and our tried-and-tested UX processes, we delivered a website that users will find impactful, contemporary, and a joy to use. Our driving force was to create a clean, minimalist interface that's effortlessly engaging and highly accessible, embodying the forward-thinking nature of The Northern Ireland Boys’ Brigade.

Results

We are pleased to continue collaborating with BBNI to develop further aspects of their website and digital presence. We have given them the tools to deliver some of these experiences to the audiences themselves, creating design templates for social media use, delivering an intuitive back-end solution for uploading content to their WordPress blog, and developing their new learning resource hub.

At MXB, we value metrics as a compass for our designs, tracking everything from user flows to engagement time and context-driven decision making. These insights not only shape our work but also demonstrate its tangible impact. We're proud to share some of these metrics in this case study.

Our collaboration with BBNI is ongoing, and we're thrilled to report that their new identity and website have been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from all quarters. We look forward to continuing this journey of digital transformation with BBNI, helping them to inspire and empower young people for generations to come.

Client Testimonial

Your team have been amazing! Right from the start they listened and they took time to understand the internal politics associated with our need…It has been such a pleasure to work with all of them.We particularly welcomed the thought and research that went in to all the design suggestions and the additional support that they provided when we were struggling with time and capacity at our end. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone, on behalf of the team.
