Creatively Challenging Work Norms

Published on 5th August 2022

Introducing your kids to the workplace

While initially, you may be apprehensive about bringing your children into the office, allowing your worlds to collide could be an incredibly rewarding initiative. From the financial benefits (not paying for childcare) to the physical benefits (having our kids close lowers stress and anxiety). There are numerous mental and emotional benefits for you to consider:

  • Allowing your son or daughter to see where you work can open their eyes to life outside the classroom, and let your colleagues see you in a different light.
  • Bringing your children to work shows them the value of their education, and the opportunities which exist for them, shaping their vision for their future.
  • It breaks down barriers for young people, preparing them for the work environment and expectations later in life as well as demonstrating the importance of a balanced work and family life.
  • It allows your colleagues to show different aspects of their personalities as they interact with the children, which can strengthen their relationships within the workplace.
  • Children will have the opportunity to learn new skills from the workplace, from enhanced problem-solving skills and ‘best practice behaviours’ to time management and conflict resolution.
  • Most importantly, bringing your children to work can challenge the gender stereotypes which unfortunately still exist today. Not only will it serve to empower our daughters, but it will also teach children the outdated nature of traditional career and breadwinner stereotypes.

Get involved today and help organise your own ‘Bring your kids to work’ initiative within your workplace. Help your children see the value of their education, the importance of contributing to society and the value of working towards their own personal development and goals.
